Am Fios

Number 80

October 2005

Just a short and sweet Am Fios to remind you that winter is nearly over and you can all wake up and venture forth again. I hope you have not all been down with the coughs and flu, for I have heard very little from anyone.

Bob Smith has been more or less out of action, he has had cataracts removed from both eyes. Seems to have been successful, however driving has been restricted somewhat, but hopes to be at the wheel again in the not too distant future.

Hope the weather has improved before we go to Echuca. The program will be as usual. Barbecue - Tuesday evening, Scottish Breakfast - Wednesday morning - not too early - out for dinner somewhere Wednesday evening and Luncheon on Thursday. Other than these activities you will be free to talk and talk and talk and practice the pipes and of course the Am Fios Band will definitely have to perform. And no doubt there will be plenty of talking. Ladies you will be free to go shopping as well.

I hear Peg Gallacher was making good improvement after she had another fall - broke the other arm this time. Peg you will have to put more water with it. All members wish you a speedy recovery.

Frank Sertori is still in hospital - he is having leg trouble too I believe. It is time we saw your smiling face out and about again, Frank.

Lois Fraser is about to go back to hospital for another hip replacement. Hope all goes well Lois and this one last a it longer.

What are Senors Worth?

Remember that older folk are worth a fortune - with silver in their hair, gold in their teeth, stones in their kidneys and gas in their tummies!

Frankly, I have become a frivolous old lady in my old age - As soon as I wake up Will Power helps me out of bed then I pop in to see John. Next it's time for Uncle Toby, then Billy T.

They take their leave and Arthur Ritis shows up and stays on for the rest of the day. He does not like to be in one place very long so he takes me from joint to joint. After such a busy day, I'm weary and grateful to go to bed with Johnny Walker and Jim Beam. Oh, and I'm flirting with Al Zymer too.

The priest called to see me the other day and suggested that at my age I should be giving some though to the "hereafter"

I mentioned to him I do that all the time. If I'm in the kitchen, the bedroom or the backyard, I continually ask myself - "Now what am I here after?"

THE NEW ALPHABET

A is for Apple and B is for Boat,

That used to be right, But now it won't float!

Age before Beauty is what we once said,

But let's be a bit more realistic instead.

Now A is for arthritis;

B's the bad back,

C is for chest pains, perhaps car-di-ac?

D is for dental decay and decline

E is for eyesight, can't read that top line!

F is for fissures and fluid retention,

G is for gas which I'd rather not mention.

H is for high blood pressure - I'd rather it low:

I is for incisions with scars you can show.

J is for joints, out of socket, won't mend,

K is for knees that crack when they bend.

L is for libido, what happened to sex?

M is for memory. I forget what comes next

N is neuralgia, in nerves way down low:

O is for osteo, the bones that don't grow!

P is for prescriptions, I have quite a few

just give me a pill and I'll be good as new!

Q is for queasy.is it fatal or flu?

R for reflux one meal turns to two.

S for sleepless nights, counting my fears,

T for Tinnitus; there's bells in my ears!

U is for urinary; big troubles with flow:

V is for vertigo, that's "dizzy" you know,

W is for worry, NOW what's going "round?

X is for X ray, and what might be found.

Y is for another year I'm left here behind,

Z is for zest that I still have -- in my mind,

I've survived all the symptoms, my body's deployed,

And I've kept twenty six `doctors' fully employed !!!!
